analytikjena analytikjena Short Application multi EA SeriesDetermination of Sulfur in Diesel Oil / Heating Oil Introduction In order to ensure adherence with the statutory limit values (German ordinance relating to thesulphur content of certain liquid fuels - 3. BlmSchV)， there must be stringent controls of dieselused for heating purposes. The upper limit value of 200 mg/kg stipulated for low sulphur and 50mg/kg for sulphur-free extra light heating oil must not be exceeded， as the sulphur leads todamage of the boiler as well as to a considerable burden on the environment (acid rain). Sample preparation and analysis An analyzer of the multi EA Series was used with multi matrix sampler for the tests in thehorizontal operation mode. The samples to be tested were diluted with a suitable nitrogen-freesolvent (e.g. iso octane) before the analysis due to their high viscosity. The dilutions so createdwere injected into quartz boats with the aid of the autosampler. Afterwards the boats were fed intothe combustion system by means of the automatic boat drive. Thereby the fed speed is controlledby the flame sensor. The quantitative thermal decomposition was done in a two-phase process.The nitrogen content of the samples was determined with the help of a UV fluorescence detector. Method Parameters The method TS_hori_liquid of the standard method library was used for analyzing. Prior to the actual determination of the sulfur content， the system was calibrated using standardsolutions (dibenzothiophene in iso octane). The multi-matrix samplerallows an optimal adjustment of the sample introduction to the requirements of the matrix to beanalyzed. During parallel operation of a chemoluminescence detector the nitrogen content can bedetermined simultaneously. Moreover， the application spectrum can be expanded with additionalaccessory modules to include the parameters chlorine and carbon. Expression and further use with indication of source permit.
