This micro-cautery unit provides all the cautery power necessary for laboratory surgical procedures. This micro-cauterizing unit uses thermodynamic technology to perform microsurgical tasks with efficiency and cleanliness.

The handpiece with its six-foot cord accepts an assortment of reusable autoclavable thermal cautery electrode platinum tips, allowing this cutting device complete flexibility to perform a wide variety of procedures.

This micro-cautery unit can be used for teaching or research. The instrument is durable and easy to operate. The unit works by passing a current through a platinum cutting wire. The wire super heats at a preprogrammed rate for a few microseconds, and then abruptly stops. The heating process causes the formation of a thin gaseous layer in the solution surrounding the wire. A shock wave is created in the solution because the rate of heating is much faster than the velocity of motion of the solution molecules. This intense but finite shockwave expands from the wire inducing the cutting turbulence. The quick heating and cooling of the platinum wire causes a flushing effect as the cool water rushes in after the brief shockwave and turbulence subsides. Debris from the lysed cells directly adjacent to the wire is flushed away immediately. Cellular debris does not stick to the wire. Even at the highest power settings, only an extremely small quantity of heat is generated and then quickly cooled which does not increase the temperature of the surrounding environment.
