This publication compared the Simoa SNAP-25 assay with their established Mass Spec assay within a cohort containing cognitively impaired and cognitively unimpaired individuals. They found a strong correlation between methods and that SNAP-25 is increased in relation to amyloid pathology in Alzheimer’s. “These results indicate that the Simoa SNAP25 method can be used interchangeably with the IPMS method for the quantification of SNAP25 in CSF.”

This is another paper measuring the levels of NfL in healthy subjects aged 5-90 years and establishing reference cut-off values. A multi-cohort population of healthy subjects had plasma NfL concentrations measured and 95th percentile cut-off values were established for 5 age group ranges (5-17 yr; 18-50 yr; 51-60 yr; 61-69 yr; >70 yr). These cut-off values will help when plasma NfL measurement is introduced as a routine clinical test for neurodegeneration.

    Vasilevskaya et al. Investigating the use of plasma pTau181 in retired contact sports athletes

The objective of this publication was to examine plasma pTau181 in retired contact sports athletes determined to be at risk for neurodegeneration. pTau181 levels were significantly higher in the retired athletes as compared to healthy controls. “Baseline pTau181 did not predict longitudinal changes in regional brain volumes or white-matter integrity in the athletes. pTau181 may be useful for identifying those with brain abnormalities related to repeated concussion”.

    Thota et al. Association of Plasma Neurofilament Light Chain With Glycaemic Control and Insulin Resistance in Middle-Aged Adults

内容简介
The goal of this study was to examine whether there was an association between NfL and diabetes status between healthy, pre-diabetic and type 2 diabetes patients. A significant positive correlation was shown between NfL concentrations and fasting blood glucose. Plasma NfL concentrations were significantly higher from normal subjects < pre-diabetic < type 2 diabetic patients. The results showed evidence of higher neurodegeneration is subjects that were pre-diabetic or had documented type 2 diabetes.

    Bahoum et al. Phenotypic Heterogeneity of Fulminant COVID-19–Related Myocarditis in Adults

内容简介
This paper used both Simoa planar and bead technologies to examine the inflammatory cytokine marker differences between subjects with COVID-19-related myocarditis. Simoa Corplex and Simoa IL-17A and IFNa bead assays was used to measure serum cytokines. Subjects with COVID-19–Related Myocarditis had higher IL-22, IL-17A and TNFa levels whereas those without myocarditis had significantly higher IFNa and IL-8 levels. Being able to differentiate these subjects will help to understand the pathophysiology of the COVID-19–Related Myocarditis
