    Abstract. This study investigates the changes in radial micro-texture via Kearn’s f-factors during single cold pilger reductionof a titanium Ti-3-2.5 alloy as a result of strain path changes from tooling modifications. EBSD results confirm that thetexture intensity as well as the radial f-factors can be increased by modifications of pilgering tooling. In addition a switchbetween the secondary prism planes which lie normal to the pilger direction in the starting tube to primary prism planesafter pilgering has been observed.Material and ExperimentalThe tubes investigated were made from Ti alloy 3Al 2.5V, they were manufactured via hot extrusion and then cold pilgered.The cold pilger process configuration is schematically shown in Figure 1. Two strain paths, shown in the ‘Q‘ factor chart inFigure 2, were used in the manufactiure: texture minimised and texture maximised. They were annealed at 750oC beforebeing cold pilgered and for this investigation they were stress relieved at 530oC for 2 hours prior to EBSD examination.Specimens were extracted from two regions either side of the reduced tube as shown in the schematic Figure 2, mountedin conductive Bakelite and polished mechanically for EBSD examination. The final polish was carried out using vibratorypolishes using a mixture of 5:2 colloidal silica, hydrogen peroxide mixture. EBSD examination was conducted using aFEGSEM and OI EBSD Nordlys detector and AZtec Software.

  • A Fast and Robust GC/MS/MS Analysis of 203 Pesticides in 10 Minutes in Spinach
    AbstractThis application note describes two approaches for achieving robust, multiresidue pesticide analysis in 10 minutes by GC/MS/MS, while maintaining sufficient chromatographic resolution for the analysis of over 200 pesticides in spinach a challenging high chlorophyll, fresh matrix. First, the conventional 15 × 15 m (0.25 mm × 0.25 μm) midcolumn backflush configuration was used with an accelerated oven ramp, yielding an analysis time of 10 minutes. Second, a minibore 10 × 10 m (0.18 mm × 0.18 μm) midcolumn backflush configuration was used,enabling a fast 10-minute analysis time. The latter method was precisely scaled using the Agilent GC method translation technique. It was shown that midcolumn backflushing enabled method robustness and extended maintenance-free operation of the system by minimizing column trimming and source cleaning. Resultsdemonstrate that the Agilent 7000E and 7010C triple quadrupole GC/MS systems delivered excellent linearity over a concentration range of 0.1 to 1,000 parts perbillion (ppb). Method robustness was shown with 700 consecutive injections of a spinach extract, spiked with pesticides at 20 ppb, that spanned over 175 hours ofcontinuous running of the GC/TQ.

    相比于索氏提取,时间更短,产率更高。Abstract:The longan (Dimocarpus Longan Lour.) peel was extracted with 95% ethanol employing microwave-assisted extraction and Soxhlet extraction method, the total phenolic content of microwave-assisted extract of Langan peel (MEL) and Soxhlet extract of Langan peel (SEL) reached 96.78 mg/g and 90.35 mg/g dry weight, respectively, expressed as pyrocatechol equivalents, which were quanti?ed using Folin–Ciocalteu reagent. Subsequently, antioxidant properties of two extracts were investigated employing various established systems in vitro including 2,20-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay, hydroxyl radical scavenging assay using a new resonance scattering (RS) method, reducing power and total antioxidant capacity. MEL and SEL showed excellent antioxidant in all test systems compared to synthetic antioxidant 2,6-di-ter-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT) and the antioxidant activities of MEL were all superior to those of SEL. Furthermore, the suitability of MEL and SEL as substitute of BHT were determined in peanut oil, and the decrease of lipid oxidation were monitored using thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) assay. MEL and SEL treatment signi?cantly (P 0.05) reduced lipid oxidation in peanut oil compared to the control. No signi?cant differences (P ? 0:05T in lipid oxidation were detected between MEL, SEL and BHT samples of peanut oil.

    Abstract—The palladium-catalyzed arylation of rac-(E)-3-acetoxy-1,3-diphenylprop-1-ene with arylboronic acids was studied under controlled microwave irradiation conditions. Avariety of different catalysts, bases, and solvents were explored in order to achieve optimum yields in the shortest possible reaction times. The best isolated yields were obtained using Pd2(dba)3$CHCl3/PPh3 as the catalytic system, potassium phosphate monohydrate as the base, and toluene/H2O as a solvent system. Microwave irradiation using 5 mol% of the palladium catalyst for 90 s (max. temp 170 C) generally afforded the cross-coupling products in good to excellent yields.

The TSQ Quantum Access MAX mass spectrometer proved to have the proper sensitivity, accuracy, and precision for the application of this analytical method to clinical research.

    In this work the unsteady-state contact angle at the interface between polymer melt and carbon black (CB) was measured. The transition of contact angle from an unsteady to a steady state can be divided into three stages, the unsteady thermo-stage, the wetting stage, and the reach of equilibrium contact angle. Subsequently, three critical indices, the unsteady heat-transfer period t0, the retardation time τ, and the contact angle at equilibrium state A∞ are defined herein. The decrease in contact angle against time can be simulated by an exponential decay that involves these three critical indices. Molten polypropylene (PP) and polystyrene (PS) have the smallest equilibrium angle A∞, followed by polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) has the greatest angle. Interestingly, this order is strongly related to the solubility parameter of each polymer. The CB coated with sulfonated polyester slightly changes the equilibrium angle A∞, but drastically reduces the retardationtime τ for PP and PBT. This finding indicates that the CB, whose surface is modified by sulfonated polyester, can effectively reduce the compounding time of PP and polyester. Experimental results also reveal that reduce compact density slightly increases A∞ but barely affects τ. Furthermore, modifying PS with polybutadiene particles yields a high contact angle A∞ and a low τ value.

    An important part of the research and development of thin-film solar cells is the characterisation of microstructural andcompositional properties of the functional layers. For this purpose, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS) and electronbackscatter diffraction (EBSD) represent techniques which exhibit spatial resolutions on the nanometer scale but can be, atthe same time, applied on large areas of several square millimeters. The application of EDS and EBSD is demonstrated on thisexample of thin-film solar cells with Cu(In,Ga)Se2 absorber layers. While EDS provides elemental distributions even in layerswith a nominal thickness of 30-50 nm, EBSD gives not only information of average grain sizes, local orientations and grainboundaries. Moreover, strain distributions within individual grains can be calculated by the evaluation of EBSD patterns recordedon individual grains.

    IntroductionIn Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) there are two ‘go to’ techniques for elemental analysis: EnergyDispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, (EDS), and Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy, (EELS).EDS is a mature technique that can be used for most specimens. The intensity of generated X-raysis proportional to the mass thickness of the sample. However, this can become a limitation for verythin specimens or those comprising light elements. On the other hand, EELS is more suitable for thinsamples where the thickness is less than the inelastic mean free path of electrons in the material. EELSdoes, however, give high signal to noise for light elements. Simultaneous acquisition of both signals is apowerful tool for materials analysis.
