Multiphase flows play a role in many production processes in the process industry. Examples are bubble column reactors, distillation columns, fluidised beds and many more. Measuring process parameters in such systems is very difficult because most sensors are disturbed in their measuring principles by particles and interfaces. In addition, there is a need for imaging measurement technology for multiphase flows in the field of basic experimental analyses. Basic requirements are a high frame rate due to the transient nature of the flow processes, good spatial resolution and the ability to adequately image opaque multiphase mixtures in process vessels. The presentation will give an overview of the state of the art of selected tomographic imaging techniques for such applications.
