瘤胃球菌属（Ruminococcus）是消化球菌科(Peptoeaccaeeae)的一属革兰氏阳性厌氧细菌。存在于牛和绵羊的瘤胃等处。细胞为球形或类球形。直径1微米或更小，单个、成对或成链出现。代谢为典型的混合发酵，在主要产物中有乙酸和甲酸，乳酸产量可能小。氨似乎是必要的氮源。发酵纤维二糖和纤维素，其它糖有或无作用。生长需要 B族维生素等。培养基为瘤胃液和纤维二糖。在严格厌氧条件和370C下生长。瘤胃球菌属有两个种，白色瘤胃球菌(R. ulhus)和生黄瘤胃球菌( R.为vefacteras)b。
