瑞典Larodan是一家专业生产天然脂类试剂的公司，产品广泛用于食品、保健品、生物科学、医药和基础科学研究。主要产品包括脂肪酸及甲酯，脂肪酸甘油酯、辅酶A及酰基辅酶A、神经节苷脂及衍生物，神经鞘酯甘油酯，天然及合成磷脂，酰基肉碱，鞘脂，以及稳定同位素标记的脂肪酸类等4000多种。
脂肪酸甲酯为黄色澄清透明液体（精馏后为无色），具有一种温和的、特有的气味，结构稳定，没有腐蚀性。脂肪酸甲酯是用途广泛的表面活性剂(SAA)的原料。从脂肪酸甲酯出发可生产两大类表面活性剂，一类是通过磺化中和生产脂肪酸甲酯磺酸盐(MES)，另一类是通过加氢生产脂肪醇。因此脂肪酸甲酯广泛用于合成高级表面活性剂，用作高级润滑油和燃料的添加剂、乳化剂制品、香料的溶剂等，同时也可用作染料中间体。
饱和脂肪酸甲酯的主要用途是前述表面活性剂的生产。
