Description
AMPK alpha 2 is a catalytic subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). AMPK is a heterotrimer consisting of an alpha catalytic subunit, and non-catalytic beta and gamma subunits. AMPK is an important energy-sensing enzyme that monitors cellular energy status. In response to cellular metabolic stresses, AMPK is activated, and thus phosphorylates and inactivates acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and beta-hydroxy beta-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR), key enzymes involved in regulating de novo biosynthesis of fatty acid and cholesterol. Studies of the mouse counterpart suggest that this catalytic subunit may control whole-body insulin sensitivity and is necessary for maintaining myocardial energy homeostasis during ischemia.

Western blot analysis on 293T cell lysates using anti-Phospho-AMPK alpha 2 (pS491) RabMAb (cat. #3450-1). Cells were either (A) untreated (B) treated with Lambda Phosphatase (LP).
Specificity
A phospho specific peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Serine 491 of human AMPK alpha 2 was used as an immunogen. This antibody only detects AMPK alpha 2 phosphorylated at Serine 491.
Storage Condition and Buffer
Store at -20 °C. Buffer: 50 mM Tris-Glycine (pH 7.4), 0.15 M NaCl, 40% Glycerol, 0.01% sodium azide and 0.05% BSA. Stable for 12 months from date of receipt.
Alternative Names
PRKAA2 antibody, AMPK antibody, AMPK2 antibody, PRKAA antibody, 5'-AMP-activated protein kinase catalytic subunit alpha-2 antibody, antibody
