Preliminary comparison experiments between microwave and conventional heating under apparently “similar” conditions have provided differently sized and shaped CuInS2 nanoparticles, suggesting the existence of a non thermal microwave effect. However, when repeating those experiments with Monowave 300 and taking advantage of the simultaneous temperature monitoring option, it became evident, that the temperature was not correctly measured in the initially used monomode microwave reactor, which led to wrong assumptions. In fact, no evidence for the existence of a non thermal microwave effect could be found. However, since Monowave 300 represents a highly convenient tool for chemical synthesis and additionally provides accurate temperature measurement, microwave-assisted reaction processing with internal temperature monitoring will be the method of choice for nanomaterial synthesis.
