Currently the majority silica-based HPLC columns are still produced based on Totally Porous Particles (TPP). No matter which manufacture produces the particles, there are plenty of pores that are deep through the particles, which increases intraparticle mass transfer. In last decade, Dr. Jack Kirkland innovated the technology to produce 5µm and sub-3µm Superficial Porous Particles (SPP), for which a solid core is at the center. This type of morphology is able to reduce the dispersion significantly and increase the throughputs in the routine chromatography analyses. In this talk, the overview will be presented on the roadmap of SPP development and the advantages on application
